Personal Work

Outside of product design, I enjoy returning to my background in traditional arts. I’ve found that having a personal creative practice and making with my hands keeps me engaged in design. I always have a project or two I’m working on! Here’s a peek into what I’ve been creating recently.

Oil Painting

I paint with oils and show my work locally. Currently, I’m inspired by the work of Eduoard Vuillard, Evelyn Statsinger and Peter Doig.

Quilting

I’m from the Roanoke Valley in the Appalachian mountains, and love learning about and practicing patchwork and quilting traditional to this area.

Natural Dyeing

I dye fabric & yarn from materials I forage in Washington. So far, I’ve had success using walnut, mushrooms, indigo, knotweed and alder cones.

Shellfish Jewelry

From October to April, I can be found shellfishing for clams and oysters in the Puget Sound. I repurpose shells I fish and find on the beach into jewelry.

Film Photography

I bring my Minolta camera with me on most of my trips. I enjoy the delayed feedback of the film process, and the delight of discovering unexpected results!
